Finding the perfect knitwear fit means looking at more than just a single number. Meeboo Knit Sweaters are tailored to offer a cozy, flexible layer of warmth for small-to-medium dogs. Use this guide to find your dog's ideal size before you buy.

How to Measure

You'll need two measurements:

A — Chest Circumference: Measure at the widest point of the ribcage, right behind the front legs.
B — Back Length: Measure along the spine from the base of the collar to the base of the tail.

Always leave 1–2 inches of breathing room. If your dog falls between sizes, size up.

When in doubt, size up.

Fit Notes — Know Before You Buy

Our 2XL is designed for long, lean, athletic mid-sized dogs. It is not suited for every breed at that chest and back length combination.

Broad-Chested Breeds (Labradors, Vizslas, Dobermans): Even if the back length matches, these breeds carry chest measurements of 32"+ that won't accommodate this knit. Always measure chest circumference first before selecting a size.

Short-Bodied Breeds (French Bulldogs): Frenchies can reach a 26" chest, but their compact bodies mean the 2XL back length will trail well past the tail. Frenchies fit best in M or L depending on build — always check both measurements.

Large and Giant Breeds (Mastiffs, Great Danes, adult Labradors): Meeboo knitwear is designed for small-to-medium frames. Breeds with chest measurements above 30" are outside the range of our current sizing.

Deep-Chested Sighthounds (Greyhounds): Whippets fit beautifully in XL. Full-sized Greyhounds carry a chest depth that will stretch this knit beyond its intended range.

Washing & Shrinkage

Knit sweaters may experience slight shrinkage with washing, which can affect fit. To preserve size and shape, hand wash cold or use a gentle machine cycle in a mesh laundry bag, and lay flat to dry. Avoid tumble drying — heat will shrink and distort the knit. If you're between sizes or plan to machine wash regularly, size up.

Which breeds fit the 2XL beautifully?

The 2XL is designed for slender, athletic, mid-sized dogs weighing roughly 25–45 lbs. Ideal fits include smaller Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, large Beagles, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and lean Doodle mixes that inherit a narrow, slender frame.

Will my dog overheat?

Short-haired breeds with little body fat — Beagles, Staffies, Whippets, Boxers — often benefit most from a knit layer, especially below 50°F. Double-coated northern breeds (Huskies, Malamutes, Samoyeds) generally don't need additional insulation and may overheat.

What is the two-inch ease rule?

Never match your dog's exact chest measurement to the garment size. A knit sweater needs room to stretch and move. If your dog's chest measures 24–25", the 2XL (26" garment) will fit comfortably. If their chest is exactly 26", size up for full mobility.

Will it shrink?
